Abstract
The oxidation behavior of TiB-whisker-reinforced Ti60 (Ti-5.8Al-4Sn-3.4Zr-0.9Ta-0.4Mo-0.4Si-0.37Nb-0.07C) alloy (TiBw/Ti60) composites with high strength at room and high temperatures was studied in a temperature range of 873-1173. K for 100. h in air. The results show that the oxidation kinetics of the TiBw/Ti60 composites follows parabolic law and linear law at 873-973. K and 1173. K, respectively, while it follows parabolic-linear laws at 1073. K. It is unexpected that the oxidation resistance of the TiBw/Ti60 composites is lower than that of the monolithic Ti60 alloy, which is mainly attributed to the presence of more phase boundaries within the composites.
