Optoelectronic implementation of programmable threshold logic and fuzzy logic

Abstract

Multiple-valued, threshold, fuzzy logic is of significance for optical signal logical processing systems, especially for optical neural computing. The three kinds of logic implementations represent the logical reasoning process in the human brain. Recently, optical multiple-valued logic and threshold logic implementations have been reported. In this paper, the first demonstration of a programmable double-output optical threshold logic gate is presented via an optoelectronic circuit. Some basic fuzzy logic implementations are also proposed by employing these optoelectronic circuits. AND, OR, NAND, NOR, MAJORITY, MINORITY are demonstrated with a single threshold gate. Some non-threshold switching function are also generated by cascading an OR gate.
