Abstract

Emulsified asphalt is a common material for pavement engineering. Obtaining emulsified asphalt evaporation residues is the precondition for evaluating the field performance of emulsified asphalt which is essential for proper use. In this study, to obtain unaged evaporation residues, a test method at low temperature and low pressure is developed and optimized. The influence of five factors (vacuum degree, container material, stirring method, sample quality, and test temperature) on test time and the test error is analyzed to improve the procedure. All the factors have a remarkable influence on test time except stirring method, while only stirring method, container and temperature affect the error of results obviously. The criterion for judging the end of the test is also confirmed.
