Abstract

A theoretical treatment is provided for the elliptical inhomogeneity problem in piezoelectric materials under remote non-uniform antiplane shear and inplane electric field using the complex variable method. The analysis is based upon the use of conformal mapping and Laurent series expansion. The general expressions of the complex potentials are derived explicitly in both the transformed and physical planes for the inhomogeneity and the surrounding matrix. Solutions are obtained in closed form for several specific problems to illustrate the validity and versatility of the current formulation.
