Abstract

A design procedure for MR smart damping isolation scheme for a platform structure is presented, and a design method for practical engineering using MR damper is given. The simple computed model is derived from the analysis of the platform structure by ANSYS program. And based on the active optimal control design method, the MR smart damping isolation control system is finished. With MR smart damping isolation, the analyses of platform structures subjected to earthquakes and ice are done. The analyzed results show that the semi-active scheme utilizes lead-rubber bearings and MR dampers to effectively control not only displacements of the jacket cap and accelerations of the deck but also the drifts of damping isolation layer to satisfy the requirement of operation. As a result, the active optimal control design method is a good one with a widely used future and MR damping semi-active isolation scheme is a good vibration control one for platform structures.
