Numerical simulation of semi-solid slurry preparation by twin-screw

Abstract

Based on the computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the preparation process of semi-solid slurry by twin-screw was simulated to understand the velocity field and stress field in process of preparation, meanwhile, the role of twin-screw in shearing and stirring slurry was approached. The results reveal that twin-screw plays significant role in shearing and stirring slurry. In addition, stress that exhibits asymmetrical distribution at two sides of the screw is increased along the axial direction of the screw, which is possibly related to the rotating direction of screw.
