Abstract

The effects of gating system and main processing parameters on forming of A356 truss core panel produced by low pressure investment casting process have been simulated by the Anycasting software. And optimization of processing parameters has been carried out based on analysis of the simulation results. The results show that with the increase of pouring temperature, filling ability of liquid metal is increased and the defects in castings are reduced. However, with the pouring temperature more than 770℃, shrinkage porosities (holes) are increased slightly. Based on the simulated results, the optimized process parameters are presented as follows: pouring temperature of 770℃, shell preheat temperature of 200℃ and filling velocity of 40 mm/s. Then the validity of proposed results has been confirmed by the practical production.
