Abstract

A simple and accurate numerical method on orthogonal face-gear contour computation is proposed. Complicated deduction and solution of meshing equations are replaced by simply computing the point of intersection between a beeline and a plane curve in the method. With a given helical pinion, fixing offset, and the required transmission ratio, geometry of the mating horizontal gear can be computed accurately and the contact line between helical pinion and orthogonal face-gear can be obtained. The design parameter can be optimized through the analysis on 3D graphics of the contact line with 3D software.
