Abstract

A novel distributed Left-Handed (LH) microstrip line is proposed based on the complementary structures whose negative permittivity and permeability frequency bands can overlap very well, leading to a broad left-handed frequency band. Based on 3D electromagnetic simulation, the effective permittivity and permeability are both extracted from the transmission and reflection data of the LH microstrip line. Results demonstrate that the left-Handed relative bandwidth has been enhanced to 67.69% while the electrical size is as small as 0.068 wavelengths. The complementary structures are convenient for fabrication with applications to miniaturization of planar circuit components.
