Abstract
A novel PWM based static VAR compensator (PSVC) is introduced. In a single-generator infinite system, the one-order inertia model of PSVC is derived with the small-disturbance method. The theoretical analysis indicates that PSVC, compared with other SVCs, such as TCR and TSC, can compensate the reactive power more rapidly and accurately with little harmonic. Therefore it can stabilize the system voltage efficiently. The digital simulation results of the open-loop and closed-loop responses of PSVC prove the validity of the analysis.
