Abstract

A novel embedded curvature fiber optic sensor is developed, which based on the light intensity modulation by the variation of structure curvature. Static and dynamic characters of the sensor were analyzed. The operation principle of the sensor is proposed, and the sensor's configuration is improved. This sensor is embedded in a resin matrix composite lath to detect the change of lath's curvature. It also can be used to build a quasi-distributed fiber optic sensor system, which can detect and reconstruct the shape of the smart structure. Prospective applications are also proposed.
