Abstract

According to a semi-submersible platform, the platform air gap response is studied by the method of nonlinear time domain coupled analysis. In the numerical simulation, the wave surface elevations and the wave forces are calculated by boundary element and perturbation expansion methods, the mooring forces are calculated by piecewise extrapolating method, and the platform motions are calculated by Runge-Kutta method. The numerical results indicate that the scattering waves have little influence on the platform air gap response, the platform heave motions have great influence on the platform air gap response, and the lower surface of the quarter deck is the most dangerous area due to the platform pitch motions.
