Abstract

Simultaneous removal of diesel soot particulates and nitrogen oxides has been investigated over iridium catalysts in the presence of oxygen. Irf/ γ -Al2O3 catalyst is superior to Pt/ γ -Al 2O3 catalyst for the simultaneous removal of soot and nitrogen oxides. 1 wt.% of Ir/ γ -Al2O3 is an optimal content in the examined Ir contents (blank, 0.1 wt.%, 1 wt.% and 5 wt%). Support material has a little effect on the catalytic activity. The order of catalytic activity is Ir/ZSM-5 > Ir/ γ -Al2O3 > Ir/SiO2 for soot oxidation, but Ir/ γ -Al 2O3 > Ir/ZSM-5 > Ir/SiO2 for NOx reduction.
