Abstract

The optical properties in carbon nanotubes - photoluminescence and electroluminescence were discussed. In photoluminescence, two kinds of IR laser beams were used as the irradiation sources. The light emission from well-aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes (AMWNT) films was observed. The light emission spectrum is probably a compositive result of laser-induced PL and resistive heating of carbon nanotubes. In electroluminescence, carbon nanotubes were assembled into long filaments, then compared to the tungsten filaments. The light spectrum emitted from nanotube filaments is a combination of the joule heating and the electroluminescence effect at high temperature. It shows that carbon nanotubes have some excellent properties especially in photoluminescence and electroluminescence.
