Abstract

A new type of solid-state frictional actuator (traveling wave ultrasonic motor with zygomorphic teeth projections and piezoceramics) has been designed and fabricated. The new prototype provided the novel construction of the symmetric two-sided design, which coupled the elliptical locus of any material point to respective interfaces, and increased the motor's torque capability. The prototype combines the advantages such as compactness, quick response, absence of electromagnetic interference, tittle torque ripple, high torque-density, direct drive without intermediate gears etc. The drive mechanism of vibrating elements was discussed. The vibration modes and corresponding resonance frequencies of the motor were analyzed by the finite element method.
