Abstract

Lightning strike on transmission lines brings about intense impulsive corona. However, in many currently available electromagnetic transient simulation software packages, such as EMTP, EMTDC, MATLAB, model of impulsive corona is not included, that results in difficulty to simulate impulsive corona by using those software packages. Hence, in this paper the equivalent circuit of impulsive corona is derived based on the analysis of V-Q characteristic of impulsive corona. Furthermore, a electromagnetic transient simulation method considering both impulsive corona and frequency-dependence line parameters is presented by combining existing and mature Marti model. Large amount of simulations show that the results considering corona are quite different with those without taking account of corona. Therefore the paper concludes that the influence of impulsive corona should be considered in the study of the lightning strike on lines.
