Myocardial fiber track-oriented analysis based on the FCM method

Abstract

A great understand of the structure and function of the heart continues to challenge modern medicine and physiology. Recently, diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI) provides an effective means to measure and reconstruct anatomic structure and fiber architecture of the myocardium. Based on the DT-MRI dataset, in this study, the fuzzy C-means clustering method (FCM) is employed to investigate the underlying link between regional fiber contractile within the myocardium and the global function of the heart. The clustered results clearly show the contribution of the regional fiber orientation to the ventricular twist. Our observation of a helical functional band based on DT-MRI data of the ventricle is in agreement with dissection studies in the heart.
