Abstract

A new equipment of micro wire electrical discharge machining (MWEDM) was developed. The key technology of MWEDM mainly includes micro energy pulse generator with precise controlled, gap discharge states detection and controlled system, precise servo control system based on piezoelectric ceramics motors driven, constant tension winding system. The experimental research on MWEDM techniques show that utilizing micro wire electrode with diameter in 30 μm, MWEDM can machine micro slot with minimum size of 38 μm wide, and the surface roughness (Ra) is smaller than 0.1 μm, the white layer is no more than 2 μm. Micro slot, micro shaped holes and micro gear on stainless steel can be easy machined.
