Multiple model filtering for homing guidance with possible erroneous range

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Erroneous range measurements often occur in electronic jamming environment for radar-based homing missile guidance and tracking applications. A switching system model is presented to describe this problem, and a novel multiple model filter is proposed to estimate guidance information. In the new filter, the angle measurement and the range measurement are sequentially used to estimate the system state, such that a precise linearization reference point is obtained in the range measurement update. Simulation results show that the proposed filter significantly improves the tracking performance with correct range measurements, and in all probability prevents the bad influence of erroneous range measurements.
