abstract = "Recently, the application of magnetostrictive patch transducers (MPTs) has gradually extended to structural health monitoring of pipeline (SHM). However, it is limited in this field due to demagnetization and fixed working frequency of traditional transducers. To solve these problems, a novel torsional mode MPT using permanent magnet array and four solenoid coils is proposed for structural health monitoring of pipe. In the suggested configuration, each solenoid coil can generate and receive torsional guided wave of any frequency because its width is far less than wavelength. And the phased array method is adopted to control the propagation direction of guided wave. Furthermore, it is experimentally verified that the 4-channel wideband MPT can inspect a 3\% circumferential defect of pipe using torsional guided waves with different frequencies from 30 kHz to 200 kHz.",
