Abstract

It is an important subject for thermal protection of hypersonic applications to investigate the release characteristics of chemical heat sink for hydrocarbon, which depends on not only the chemical properties of hydrocarbon but also the conditions for flow with heat transfer, such as temperature, residence time, etc. Taking into account both the effect of flow with heat transfer on cracking reaction and the effect of composition variations caused by cracking reaction on flow process, a one-dimensional unsteady model has been developed to investigate the coupling characteristics between flow with heat transfer and cracking reaction for hydrocarbon. By simulating the typical operating conditions with different temperatures, different operating pressures and different mass flow fluxes, the basic laws of coupling characteristics between flow with heat transfer and cracking reaction for hydrocarbon are revealed preliminarily. The agreements of simulation results with experimental data of published literatures show that the developed model can be used to assist experiments to investigate the cracking process of hydrocarbon, and to guide the design for cooling system of hypersonic flight vehicles.
