Abstract
Microwaves can be utilized in the medical fields of direct therapy and diagnostic imaging. This chapter provides a comprehensive introduction to the use of microwave irradiation for medical treatment. The clinical applications of microwave thermal effects, including microwave thermotherapy and microwave ablation, are introduced initially. Subsequently, the principles and methods of applying the non-thermal effects of microwaves to imaging, monitoring and diagnosis are described. Additionally, microwave sterilization, the promotion of protein and peptide synthesis, and the promotion of blood coagulation are discussed. Finally, the conclusions and future prospects are briefly elaborated and summarized.
