Abstract

The microstructure of bonding zones (BZs) in the laser clad TiCp-reinforced coating by laser cladding were examined by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and ion microprobe mass spectroscopy. Three bonding modes, i.e. straight interface bonding, zigzag interface bonding and bonding by partial melting of prior austenitic grain boundaries, were observed, depending on the laser processing parameters. The phase transformation characteristics in the bonding zones of laser clad TiCp-reinforced coating were analyzed.
