Microstructural evolution of Ti6Al4V alloy during the thermal hydrogenated processing

Abstract

The microstructure evolution of unhydrogenated and hydrogenated 0.18wt.% Ti6Al4V alloy under different process conditions were studied. And hardness was used to explain the relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties. The results show that the hydrogen addition decreases the hot deformation resistance, promotes the martensite transformation during solution and quenching, and makes the duplex microstructure smaller after vacuum annealing. For both unhydrogenated and hydrogenated Ti6Al4V alloy, the reasonable process would be hot deformation, solution and quenching, and vacuum annealing, then duplex microstructure can be obtained.
