Abstract
X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, and laser Raman spectrometry testing techniques were used to analysis the microscopic structure of corrosion from one pier base in England. There are massive thaumasite crystal in the sample. It was proven that the thaumasite formation due to sulfate attack had occurred obviously. The mechanism of thaumasite formation was also investigated.
