Abstract
Oblique projection polarization filtering is a valid approach to suppress interference in high-frequency surface wave radar (HFSWR). The effect on the performance of oblique projection polarization filter by the biased estimation of the interference is analyzed. Compared with range-time domain, it benefits from higher estimation accuracy and better interference suppression performance in range-Doppler domain, due to the higher interference to noise ratio after Doppler processing. Therefore, a method for polarization cancellation of ionospheric clutter based on range-Doppler domain is proposed in this work. Experimental result of practical dual-polarized HFSWR data demonstrates that the proposed method is effective for ionospheric clutter suppression and the signal-to-interference ratio can be increased by more than 15 dB.
