Mechanical Properties of silica xerogels drying at ambient pressure

Abstract

A scaling law exists between the mechanical properties and the densities of aerogels. Silica xerogel is prepared by sol-gel process and drying at ambient pressure. The mechanical properties and the relationship with the density were talked about by the experimental data. The influence of acid catalyse, acid-basic catalyse, heat treatment on the scaling law were analyzed. According to the results, the relationship of the power among three scaling law was: αA > αAB > αH, which was analysed through the microstructure model.
