Abstract

Mechanical behavior test and calculation method for bolts tension used in cast steel connectors of steel frame beam-to-column connection was discussed in this paper. The relationship of the deformation behavior of connectors and the mechanical behavior of bolts was obtained by static tests, considering various thickness of the vertical limb, horizontal limb and ribbed slab, especially the vertical limb. The tensile tests of steel castings connected by bolts show that the internal force of bolt increases by increasing the thickness of the vertical limb and ribbed slab affects the mechanical performance of bolts significantly. The internal force of bolt is obviously affected by prying force, and moment is also caused by eccentric force. Finite element models were built and analyzed by ANSYS software. Influencing factors related to internal force of bolt were studied by finite element analysis, then the results of tension force and moment of bolt were obtained. The results show that the bend to tension stress ratio is growing when the bolt-external force increasing. The calculation method of internal force of steel casting bolt was proposed finally. The calculation results agree well with the FEA results. The stress error ratio is limited to 10%, so it can be used to calculate the stress of this kind of bolt.
