Abstract

The magnetic fluid seal and its development status were introduced and reviewed synthetically from the aspects of the generation the composition and the properties of the magnetic fluid, with emphases put on the magnetic fluid seal theory, its computational method and the factors that affect the sealing characteristics. In addition, some of the important research directions and programs were also put forward.
