Loss Analysis for Efficiency Improvement of the Current-Source Driver for Modified SEPIC Converter

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

This paper presents a study of losses in the modified SEPIC converter and its drive circuit. In order to investigate the impact of parameters on drive waveforms and possibilities of improving system efficiency, power dissipated in each part of the circuit is analyzed in detail. In addition, comparison of waveforms and drive loss between the current-source driver used in this paper and conventional driver implemented by Si8271 is made, revealing advantages of the CSD. Finally, using equations presented in this paper, the impact of parameter changes on efficiency is illustrated, and therefore, further improvement of the converter is proposed. With the CSD implemented, the system reached an efficiency of 91.63% compared to 90.91% when using Si8271.
