Abstract

The directly welded RHS joints are complicated 3-D thin walled structures. In order to get its behavior by theoretical analysis, the material and geometrically nonlinear problems must be considered. The influence of geometric parameters on stepped T-type RHS joint was studied by using finite element method considering material and geometrically nonlinear effect. The formulas of the load-carrying capacity of the joint under axial loading and bending were presented respectively. Based on the analysis results of stepped T-type RHS joints under combined axial loading and bending, a simple design method is proposed.
