Abstract

Water is an important resource for the sustainable development of mankind’s economic, social, and natural ecosystems. Over the past half-century, water security has become an important global issue driven by a range of factors, including population growth, increased human activity, and climate change. The provision and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all has been included as one of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals for 2030; however, many challenges remain in building effective implementation pathways and solutions. The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has provided new ideas and methods to achieve this ambitious goal. This chapter analyzes and summarizes the current situation and effects of AI applications in the fields of water and the environment, discusses the key issues to be resolved in the process of implementing sustainable development techniques for water and the environment using AI, and provides an outlook on the integration and collaborative development of AI innovations in the domains of water and the environment.
