Abstract

The capacity gain offered by MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) MC-CDMA (Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access) systems, which exploits the transmit and receive diversity inherent in multipath propagation, along with the robustness provided by MC-CDMA scheme utilising OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) in fading channels is potentially significant. Past papers have considered the Single-Carrier MIMO model as well as the single user MISO and SISO models. In this paper, a Layered Space Frequency Equalisation (LSFE) approach for the Multi-User MIMO MC-CDMA system is presented and is shown to yield significantly better performance compared to the conventional MMSE (Minimum Mean Square Error) equaliser method. It is shown that LSFE can provide a viable solution to the problem of multi-user detection in MIMO MC-CDMA systems.
