Abstract

In order to reduce the kVA rating of the phase-shifting transformer and improve the power density of the rectifier, a large current rectifier based on fork-connected autotransformer is proposed. By analyzing the characteristics of the large current rectifier, the ideal large current rectifier which is a combination of the phase-shifting autotransformer and two three-phase half-wave rectifiers was obtained. For the requirement of the large current rectifier, a fork-connected autotransformer with π/3 phase-shift angle was designed and applied in the large current rectifier. The input line current, load voltage and the kVA rating of the fork-connected autotransformer were analyzed after the fork-connected autotransformer was used in the ideal large current rectifier. Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the proposed large current rectifier has similar power quality to that of the double-star rectifier, but the kVA rating of the fork-connected autotransformer is less than that of the double-star transformer about 30% under the same load power, which can improve the power density of the proposed large current rectifier.
