Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effect of asphalt content on dynamic modulus of HMA. For this objective, mixtures with one specific coarse aggregate gap gradation (CAGG) and five varying asphalt contents are selected. The dynamic modulus test method recommended by NCHRP 9-29 is adopted to evaluate the dynamic characterization of these materials. The dynamic modulus |E*|, phase angle and their master curve characteristic parameters are determined to evaluate the performance of HMA. The results indicate that the characteristic parameters of master curve can express the viscoelastic property of HMA. For CAGG mixture, the characteristic parameters of its dynamic modulus and phase angle master curves change with varying asphalt content. This proves that asphalt content influences viscous and elastic properties of mixture.
