Abstract

A new method based on fourth-order cumulants for joint direction of departure (DOD) and direction of arrival (DOA) estimation in bistatic multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar was presented, which solved the problem of the performance declining based on second-order statistics in the circumstance of colored noise. The fourth-order cumulants matrix was constructed which was based on the basic definition of the cumulant. Then the noise subspace was derived effectively from eigenvalue decomposition. Finally, according to the basic principle of the MUSIC method, the results reveal that the estimations could be performed correctly and paired automatically. Compared with the traditional algorithm based on second-order statistics, the proposed method proves to be effective in prohibiting the effect of the Gaussian colored noise and the angle estimation performance is improved. The theoretic analysis and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of this proposed method.
