Abstract
Core photoelectron bands are shifted and asymmetrized as a consequence of the resonant interaction with the Auger continua. We evaluate the energy dependence of this interaction to explore to what degree the core 1s photoelectron band of neon is asymmetric. On qualitative grounds, we find that PCI (post-collision interaction) and direct two-electron ionization can be neglected for the calculation of the band shape. The shift and asymmetrization can be viewed in terms of the Manne-Åberg theorem for inner-shell ionization if the resonant interaction is included.
