Abstract

The past two decades have seen an increasing interest in the use of earth-abundant transition metals such as manganese, cobalt, or iron in homogeneous catalysis as an interesting and highly valuable alternative to classical precious metal-based catalysts in organic transformations, including the reduction and the hydrofunctionalization of carbonyl compounds. This chapter summarizes the fast and pioneering development of earth-abundant, metal-catalyzed selective hydrosilylation of carbonyl and carboxylic derivatives. The transformation of carbon dioxide will be also discussed.
