Abstract
Laser forming of sheet metal is a new dieless forming technology appeared in recent years, which has great potential advantages in the small-batch production and trial of new products. In this paper, the latest research developments in three-dimensional laser forming were introduced first, then a comprehensive analysis of laser scanning strategy was summarized and the shortcomings of them was revealed. From the above analysis we can conclude that in order to form the curved surface with certain precision, the 3D laser forming mechanism should be further investigated to reveal the intrinsic link between the target surface and scanning strategies, to develop generic scanning strategies and the automation of forming process; it also needs to study the automatic NC feedback control in laser forming to reduce the uncertain factors on the impact of forming accuracy.
