Abstract
The highly dense TiB/Ti cermet was produced by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis combined with pseudo hot isostatic pressing. The wear-resistant properties of the TiB/Ti cermet were examined by means of ring-block contact wear test. The microstructure of the TiB/Ti cermet was investigated. The results show that the TiB/Ti cermet has an excellent wear-resistance property. There is little loss of mass after two hours under 4 kg loading in the condition of dry sliding wear testing. The major wear mechanisms are described as follows: sticking friction, grain-abrasion and stripping of hard phase.
