Investigation of the mechanical properties of the 3D woven composites with random pores

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

In this work the mechanical properties of a type of three-dimensional (3D) woven composites with random pores are studied. The structure of this 3D woven composite is described and its representative volume element (RVE) model is built. The finite element method based on nonhomogeneous elements is derived and adopted in the calculation. The composites with complex microstructure could be managed by this method. The random pores in the woven materials are described which can be dealt by the method mentioned in the previous sentence. The effective moduli and Poisson's ratios of the composites are obtained. The influences of the volume fraction on the effective elastic properties are discussed.
