Abstract

This chapter presents the research background, motivations and research problems of this book. At first, an overview is provided on analysis and synthesis of discrete-time two-dimensional (2-D) systems, which include some important preliminary results such as 2-D modeling, stability and performance analysis, stabilization, robust control and filtering, and model approximation. Followed by this, we introduce some classes of 2-D systems, that is, 2-D uncertain systems, 2-D state-delayed systems, 2-D Markovian jump systems, 2-D linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems. Then, a timely review is also presented on the recent advances of the analysis and synthesis of linear repetitive processes (LRPs). Finally, we summarize the main contributions of this book and give the outline of this book.
