Abstract

Virtual meetings have been utilized widely in the virtual collaboration of employees, who reports that there are numerous sources of interruptions in the virtual communication scenario. Based on the theoretical foundations of interruption phenomena and the specific technical features of virtual meeting systems, four distinct dimensions of interruptions were identified: environmental interruptions, multi-face interaction interruptions, self-view interruptions, and communication interruptions. This study aims to develop a scale for measuring interruptions in virtual meetings, guided by Media Naturalness Theory, and to systematically analyze the frequency of interruption and specific effects. This study identifies the characteristics of various interruptions in virtual meetings to provide a scientific basis for improving virtual communication technology and to support future in-depth research on naturalness and interruptions in virtual communication contexts.
