Abstract

Transfer functions, whose role is essential to discriminate tissues by assigning different colors and opacities, are crucial to the quality of volume rendered images. For typical visualization applications, boundaries usually carry most of the relevant information and perform the compact abstraction of the dataset. In this paper, using the ray casting algorithm in the Visualization ToolKit (VTK), we present a simplified LH histogram transfer function design method to interactively visualize the multi-boundary of the segmented data sets. We also provide the user with interaction tools and several fundamental operations. With these interaction tools, one can choose specific tissues and boundaries of interest, and observe the rendering results at arbitrary viewpoint. The efficiency of the proposed transfer function design method is verified using the human heart data.
