Abstract

In order to make use of intelligent focusing methods based on image processing in remote sensing camera and improve its focusing ability, an intelligent focusing method was proposed based on accessorial CCDs. This method solved the problem that the base of comparison was uncertain due to images changing. It created a way for intelligent focusing methods to come in the field of remote sensing cameras. On the basis of expatiating focusing principle, selecting principle and algorithm for multi-chip CCDs were given. Then a simulation of auto-focusing using Variance as the focus measure was carried out. The results show that the proposed focusing method based on auxiliary CCD can automatically and reliably search for and get to the best focus position, and obtain clear images, is suitable for remote sensing cameras accordingly.
