Abstract
Achieving high energy density and a prolonged cycle life in anode materials remains a formidable challenge in the advancement of next-generation high-performance energy storage systems. Here, we introduce a novel intelligent dual-anode strategy aimed at surmounting the limitations inherent in current commercial lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) anode designs. Through harnessing the forward conduction characteristic of diodes, we effectively integrate Li-metal anode and silicon-based anode within an intelligently designed dual-anode circuit. By strategically modulating the periodically open and close status of the dual-anode circuit, full cells equipped with high-voltage LiCoO2 (LCO) cathode and SiOx&Li dual-anodes demonstrate a substantial enhancement in electrochemical performance, evidenced by a remarkable capacity retention of 92% after 500 cycles. The distinctive operational mechanism of LIBs employing intelligent dual-anode circuit is meticulously elucidated through comprehensive electrochemical testing and physical characterization. We posit that the insights gleaned from this investigation hold significant theoretical implications for the development and practical implementation of high energy density LIBs.
