Abstract
The aim of this paper is to investigate factors such as nutrient, pH, temperature, residual chlorine, pipeline lining and materials that influence biofilm growth, taking both experimental pipe sections and urban water supply network as research objects. BDOC was proposed as the index for evaluating biological stability of water quality, and both experimental pipe sections and urban water supply network were investigated. Results showed that bacteria decreased with the reduction of BDOC, and it could be restrained by controlling BDOC within 0.213 mg/L; BDOC decreased, while bacteria increased along the actual pipeline. High temperature greatly improved bacteria reproduction. For pH, in the range of 5.6-8, bacteria was relatively high; pH < 5 and pH > 8, bacteria decreased rapidly. Bacteria increased with the decrease of residual chlorine. Pipe lining and materials also influence biofilm growth. Effective measures for improving water quality of water supply network were proposed according to different factors.
