Abstract
The B19 martensite structure of Ti51.5Ni33.1Cu15.4 thin films containing the Ti2Cu precipitates annealed at 873 K for 1 h has been investigated by transmission electron microscopy. It was found that the Ti2Cu precipitates do not stop the shear deformation of martensitic transformation. The Ti2Cu precipitates were elastically bent when martensite plates cut through them. However, the Ti2Cu precipitates sometimes change the martensite plates in direction or width, suggesting that the Ti2Cu precipitates provide a resistance to the growth of martensite plates to some degree.
