Abstract

After heat treatment, there exist different types of precipitates in Ti-rich Ti-Ni-Cu thin films, i.e. GP zones, Ti2Cu precipitates and Ti2Ni precipitates. The GP zones do not stop the shear deformation of martensitic transformation. Ti2Cu precipitates can also be passed through by the martensite plates with bending deformation. However, Ti 2Ni precipitates seriously disturb or even stop the growth of martensite plates during the martensitic transformation. Those results can be used to explain the decrease of a maximum recoverable strain in Ti-rich Ti-Ni-Cu thin films when the annealing temperature increases.
