Abstract

In this study, the clothing insulation and thermal adaption to cold climate in different regions were discussed based on the China thermal comfort database. Particularly, we analysed the indoor air temperature (ta) and occupants' clothing insulation (Iclo) in cold winter of different climate zones: severe cold (SC), cold (C), hot summer and cold winter (HSCW). The linear model of clothing insulation over indoor air temperature was established through Bin analysis. Moreover, the cluster analysis was adopted to derive the typical patterns. The result shows that the thermal neutral temperatures in SC, C and HSCW were 21.9°C, 20.4°C, 18.8°C, respectively, contrary to the trend of outdoor temperature in the three zones. Four clusters for the combination of Icl and ta were obtained: the typical heated room in three climate zones and the typical unheated room. Dwellers long-time in unheated rooms were more adaptable to cold climate than those in heated rooms.
